Lebanon

Lebanon is a small country with an area of 10,452 sq. km and a population estimated at 4 million people. The basic characteristic of the country is diversity in terms of its geography, demographics, history, political system and culture.

The history of Lebanon has been a reflection of its environment: a turbulent history and a determination to survive and prosper.

In this environment, Transmed has thrived, grown, and expanded successfully facing business challenges as well as political turmoil. It endured the Lebanese civil war from 1975 to 1992 and most recently in the 2006 July war we lost our entire distribution center and most of our transportation fleet.

The toll of these events on the organization was heavy: our warehouses were burnt down, our offices bombed several times, our van and delivery fleets were totally disseminated. Despite all of this, our operations remained uninterrupted throughout the 17 years of unrest. We maintained direct distribution operations across the whole country, and when peace was re-established, we embarked on a wide-ranging program of business investments to provide our operations with the tools needed to sustain growth and increase organizational effectiveness.

Today the company operates modern purposely-built logistics facilities, a large delivery fleet, a sales and distribution fleet serviced by a network of warehouse facilities in all the regions.

Our sales strategy in Lebanon is in line with our sales strategy in the region. It is based on providing proper focus across the different trade segments, ensuring a wide and effective direct sales coverage of the various consumption points. The Lebanese market is largely a wholesale and grocery market with a rapidly growing modern trade and supermarket segment. Parallel to these trade segments, our sales organization covers, directly, other important segments like pharmacies, hospitals, schools and institutions. The combination of our extensive grocery coverage and our deep penetration of the wholesale trade embodies an effective push-pull mechanism, while on the level of the upper trade professional account management and category management are priority areas.

The leading market shares of our brands, the strong presence of our products across the Lebanese markets, and the deep penetration of our sales organization are clear indications of a successful sales and distribution strategy implemented by skilled and professional people.
