Syria is a large country (about 185,000 square km.) with a young and growing population of estimated at 17 million people with an infrastructure that is being consistently modernized. The current government's policy is to introduce economic reforms, to gradually remove trading restrictions thus providing the private sector with a greater role in the economic development. All these elements, in addition to Syria's strategic position in the Levant, offers substantial business potential.
The economic liberalization brought far-reaching changes to the supply chain in the Syrian market, such as more companies providing direct distribution to groceries and consumers being given a wider of choice of products to choose from.As a local sales & distribution organization we had to recognize and embrace these changes in order to build our brands, expand our product portfolio, offer our customers competitive service levels and last but not least offer our Syrian consumers real value-for-money and genuine product satisfaction.
Our sales strategy relies on an extensive direct weighted coverage of the wholesale segment as well as the retail trade. At the core of this strategy is the strong belief in the need to impact effectively at the point of consumption in supermarkets, self-service stores, groceries and small shops. In parallel, we leverage the supply network operated by the wholesale sector, as wholesalers will remain to be the key players in the supply chain in a country dominated by a traditional trade structure. While preparing to handle the modern trade, we do not expect the "modern trade" in Syria before 2006.
Transmed's sales organization is deployed in Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Lattakia and the coastal area. In each of these districts, and in order to support the sales operation, the Company thrives on a range of comprehensive logistics services consisting of a central distribution centerarl, storage and office facilities in the major cities, administration services, data transmission facilities and a state of-the-art management information system.
